Photo Release

From time to time the GPSC will take pictures at club events and post these pictures on the website, in the newsletter or on social media pages.  By accepting the policy, you are agreeing that any pictures of you (or your family) at club events (including competitions at other clubs) can be used in this way without the need for the GPSC to seek further permission.  You further understand that the GPSC may include your child's name on its website and/or in newsletters, social media pages for purposes such as good luck and congratulations without the need to seek further permission. 

 

Accidents and Liability

It is to be understood and agreed that the Grande Prairie Skating Club shall not be liable for injury or loss occasioned by the member while traveling to or participating in skating practices, competitions, or other activities, nor are Grande Prairie Skating Club or Skate Canada responsible for losses caused by the member at the same time.  The member and/or members' parent(s)/legal guardian agrees to indemnify the Grande Prairie Skating Club and Skate Canada and hold it harmless from any claims or demands in such respect of the loss or damage.  The undersigned agrees to aide by all the rules of the Club and Skate Canada as set forth in the rulebook of the association, and to be responsible and to pay promptly for all lessons booked by the skater/parent/guardian.  There shall be no refund in the event that the skating sessions are cancelled due to mechanical failure, tests, or other activities of the Club.  

 

Parent/General Policy

All Pre-Canskate, Canskate, Rising Stars and Star 1 skaters are to be supervised at all times.  Parents are not to drop Pre-Canskate, Canskate, Rising Stars, Star 1 skaters off at the rink and leave unattended.  This is due to the young age of these skaters and the higher likelihood for injury at these levels.  Grande Prairie Skating Club is not responsible for the supervision of skaters when not in skating or off-ice sessions. 

 

Rules

• Proper courtesy must be extended to all skaters and coaches at all times.  Swearing, kicking, stomping on the ice or other disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.  Offending skaters will be asked to leave the ice immediately and the disciplinary process will be used.  
• Skaters must not eat while on the ice and only water bottles with water are permitted at the ice surface.  
• Skaters are required to be on time for all skating sessions and lessons regardless of whether it is group, private or off-ice.
• Permission must be attained before leaving the ice for any reason.  This is both a courtesy to the coaching staff as well as a safety precaution for the skaters.
• Do not stand and socialize in the middle of the ice or along the boards.  Skaters will be given warnings and if these warnings are ignored, they will be asked to leave the ice.
• Do not lie on the ice unless you are injured and need assistance.  
• If you need to speak to a coach, do so while they are off the ice.  Please do not interupt coaches during lesson time unless it is your own child's lesson.

 

Registration Information

• The Grande Prairie Skating Club reserves the right to alter schedules and designate categories based on need and ability.
• The Grande Prairie Skating Club has the right to cancel sessions that have insufficient registrations.
• Skaters must be registered with Skate Canada and members in good standing with their current Skate Canada Club prior to registration.
• For skaters taking tests and/or attending competitions, additional charges will be assessed and invoiced in addition to the registration and coaching fees.
• Watch for notices of any scheduled or unscheduled cancellations, including test days.  Test days may preempt regular skating times due to judge availability.

 

Skate Canada Membership Policy

On an Annual basis, the Grande Prairie Skating Club will submit the following information from their skating registrants to Skate Canada to be registered for the skating year.  Please see the Skate Canada website for more detailed information of their use of information.

• Skater First Name
• Skater Last Name
• Skater DOB
• Registrant Address, City, Province, Postal Code and email address

 

CanSkate General Policy

• All skaters require a CSA approved helmet, skates and gloves
• Sessions are subject to cancellation if enrolment is insufficient
• We do not offer any classes that allow parents on the ice
• Refunds will be considered for medical reasons only.  

 

 Rising Stars / Star General Policy

• The use of a CSA approved helmet is mandatory
• All skaters are required to wear figure skates
• Sessions are subject to cancellation if enrolment is insufficient

Refund Policy

Any request for refund must be made in writing and addressed to the Board of Directors.  No refunds will be given to skaters leaving on their own accord.  All

refunds will be at the discretion of the Board of Directors,and will be prorated.  Skate Canada fees and insurance fees are non-refundable.  At $25 administration

fee will be charged for any refund or credit.  Credit to the skater's account will be given for any granted refund.  This credit may be transferred to another family

member's account, and must be used within 1 year from the date of issue.  Refunds granted to families for the reason of relocation outside of Grande Prairie will

be issued a refund by cheque. 

Skaters unable to skate for medical reasons may be credited their registration upon the receipt of a Physician's note, for the time stated in the Physician's note that

the skater is unable to skate.  The time period must exceed one week in duration.

The requirement of a Physician's note may be waived at the Board's discretion

 

Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy and are committed to maintaining your confidence and trust.  Accordingly, we maintain the following privacy policy to protect personal information you provide.  Any information you give to us will be kept in confidence and will not be used in ways that you have not consented to.  Any personally identifiable information about yourself will NOT be used for any other purpose other than to respond to your inquiry.  We do not sell, rent, loan, trade or lease any personal information collected.  

The Skater's information will be used to renew the yearly membership fee through Skate Canada.

Outstanding Fees Policy

 

ALL outstanding REGISTRATION AND COACHING FEES must be paid before you register for new programs.  This system allows many payment options, including setting up installments on your credit card.  

 

Fundraising Policy

The Grande Prairie Skating Club, a non-profit organization, considers fundraising essential at every level of skating.  It helps maintain reasonable ice and program costs for all members. Fundraising requirements are announced at the start of each session and are mandatory for all skaters registered in Rising Stars and StarSkate. Each skater must meet ALL fundraising commitments. Failure to fulfill ALL fundraising commitments will result in a penalty of $500 to your skater's account. The penalty will need to be paid prior to registering for the following session.

 

Volunteer Policy

The Grande Prairie Skating Club is a non-profit organization that relies on volunteers for its operations. Our dedicated volunteers play a crucial role in the GPSC, serving on the Executive Board and organizing various fundraising events and club activities. In order to make our club a success, we require all families to volunteer their time.  

To ensure the success of our club every GPSC family from Rising Stars and up is required to complete a minimum number of volunteer shifts.

2025-2026 Regular Volunteer Requirements

• Any amounts charged to your account for missed volunteer shifts must be paid prior to registering for any future events or skating sessions.

2025-2026 Casino Volunteer Requirements

• The 2025-2026 season will include a casino.  This will be in quarter 2 (April-June) with dates being announced in the fall of 2025. Casinos are a major source of funding for special events mainly for our higher level skaters. Thus we will requiring all families Star 2 and higher to work one Casino shift.
• If you do not complete your casino volunteer requirements, your account will be charged $125 for each shift you are short.  If you are a no-show or cancel a shift, your account will be charged.
• Volunteers must be 18 years or older and no alcohol use or gambling can occur during the casino days by the volunteers.
• Any amounts charged to your account for missed volunteer shifts will need to be paid prior to registering for any future events or skating sessions.
